Fist City - Loretta Lynn

According to Loretta Lynn, her 1968 hit song, “Fist City,” came from a true slice of life.

Loretta explained, “That song was written about a woman who lived about five miles from us in Nashville, Tennessee. And she was after my husband…..there was no doubt about it. She would show up at the clubs where I was playing but she wasn’t there to listen to me sing. She was there after my husband.

And “Fist City” was written as a message to that woman—to lay off chasing my husband or get ready for a fight.”

“Fist City” entered the country music charts February 24th, 1968 and became Loretta’s 2nd number one. It was on he charts for 17 weeks and her 18th charted song.
